National Deviled Egg Day

National Deviled Egg Day is celebrated on November 2nd of each year.  This popular hors-d’oeuvre or side dish is oftentimes seen at parties, family gatherings, and potluck dinners.  Since deviled eggs are so wildly delicious, people conduct various activities to celebrate the unique occasion.  One simple achievement to mark this unofficial holiday is to make deviled eggs at home, or perhaps buy some deviled eggs from a restaurant or the deli section of your local grocery store.

There is little known about the origins of National Deviled Egg Day. Perhaps a person or group thought that National Deviled Egg day deserves a spot on the list of food holidays celebrated every year.  While little is known about the origins of National Deviled Egg Day, historians have discovered that the word ‘deviled’ refers to zesty and spicy food.  This would include eggs with pepper, mustard, and other ingredients that are mixed with the yolk of hard-boiled eggs.

Deviled eggs are simple to prepare.  To make deviled eggs, the first step is to boil some eggs. Allow them to cool, then shell them and cut them in half. Gently scrape out the yoke and mix the yolks with mayonnaise, mustard, and seasonings.  The last step is to place the mixture neatly back into the egg and serve.  Some people are more creative and make chocolate deviled eggs by mixing the yolk with cocoa powder, heavy cream powdered sugar and cream cheese.
