The Library’s “Hot Topics” series continues to grow with the addition of its third LibGuide, which covers the topic of “Gender.” This LibGuide features a wide selection of resources that cover the intricacies of gender.
Starting out on the home page, you will see an interactive gender mind map and a map showing levels of gender protection across the United States. In the “Introduction to Gender” section there is a list of sources that help give an overview of gender, including Gender Identity and Third Gender. This page also includes a Gender Identity Slide Show which features charts such as Self-Reported Masculinity and Femininity, Perceived Importance of Being Viewed as Masculine or Feminine, and Views on Transgender People.
The books, e-books, journals, and other sources listed in this LibGuide cover gender and a variety of related subjects. Why is Gender Identity so Important? and Gender Terms Explained are good starting points for understanding what gender means. Interested in how gender has been perceived throughout history? Check out The Archaeology of Gender. Learn about marriage equality with Gay Marriage Generation and Lesbian and Gay Marriage. You can also find titles that cover gender roles, stereotyping genders, and more in this LibGuide.
