Ben is right on the money and heads out to confront Johnny. Due to the gasoline in the garage, Johnny cannot flame on. Ben is about to slug Johnny when he suddenly turns back to his human form. Johnny leaves the garage and flames on into the distance. Ben returns to his rocky Thing form.
Johnny heads to the Bowery and acquires a bunk. On the bunk he finds an old Sub-Mariner comic from the 1940s. One of the other men at the Bowery states that there is a “stubble bum” with same strength as the Sub-Mariner. A group of men ask the mysterious man to tear apart a phone book apart, but he refuses. The group rushes the mysterious men but are quickly dealt with. The mysterious man then proclaims that he cannot remember anything and questions his existence. Johnny then uses his flame with one finger and removes the mysterious man’s beard, revealing that man looks exactly like Namor the Sub-Mariner!
Johnny takes the mysterious man to the sea and places him in the water. Now in the water, Namor remembers who he is and swims to his home Atlantis. Once Namor reaches Atlantis he finds it in ruins, a causality of atomic testing. Returning to New York, he tells Johnny he will take revenge by conquering humanity.
At the Baxter Building, the other members of the Fantastic Four are relieved to see Johnny’s flame and depart to his location with the Fantasti-Car. Once there, Johnny fills in his other team members about Namor’s plan.
Namor, meanwhile, has found the Horn of Proteus and calls forth the largest living animal to his service, Giganto. With Giganto in tow, Namor attacks New York. The army attempts to bombard the beast, but to no avail. Ben comes up with the idea of placing a nuclear weapon on the beast. When Giganto decides to take a nap, Ben goes ahead with his plan, placing it inside the beast’s paw.
Ben succeeds, barely escaping a nuclear blast. Namor threatens to use of the Horn of Proteus again, but it is taken away from him by Sue while invisible. Namor tackles Sue as she returns to normal and states that he might let the human race live if she agrees marry him. Namor threatens to use the horn again and Sue reluctantly accepts.
