Love My Library

How would you describe a library?  A building?  A book depository?  Computer Lab?  Learning Environment?  Quiet?  Well, many libraries are that and so much more…

Libraries are a wealth of knowledge, information, fascinating people, and interesting materials of all types.  Libraries come in all shapes and sizes, they can be quiet and/or loud and they can be physical and/or virtual.  Regardless of what type of library you may use, used, or work in—one very real thing about libraries are they are indispensable, valuable, and necessary.

How do I know?  Well, I work in a library and cannot think of a better place to be.  You can watch a movie, listen to music, write the great American novel, socialize with others, and yes, you can still research and find a cozy nook to hibernate to escape from the cold winter or hot summer days.  Librarians love nothing more than assisting patrons and seeing the smiles on their satisfied patron’s faces.

We are not here to boast about Libraries, but rather to acknowledge and appreciate those who use the library.  It is National Library Lover’s Month so maybe there is no coincidence that it falls within the same month as Valentine’s Day. February is for lovers; therefore, it is dedicated to the people who love not only the structure, but everything it stands for–whether it is reading, researching, studying, or socializing.  Perhaps the best part of libraries is that they are free to everyone who enters.  Once inside the possibilities are endless—you can search anywhere in the world, read about any place in the world, find romance, get caught up in a suspenseful mystery, or learn more about prominent people—libraries have it all.

Now, you do not need to take my word for it.  Here are some library resources that may peak your interest:

American Library Association
Bellevue University Library eCatalog
Bellevue University Pinterest Page
Freeman/Lozier Library Facebook
Library of Congress
Little Free Library
Smithsonian Libraries

So why not “check one out” this month, maybe take a “shelfie,” and then let us know how you describe your library experience…  We are confident you will recognize the value of libraries and the people who work there; however more importantly, you are sure to learn something you did not know before walking in the door.  Who knows, you may want to become a part of the wonderful world of libraries!!!
