No Pick-up Necessary – Library Material Can be Sent to Your Home

graduation_capIn his May 31 blog post, Joel Hartung informed our new and former graduates of the many library resources and services that are available electronically for all who are Bellevue University alumni. This post will enlarge on that information by sharing that ALL members of the Bellevue University community, including the alumni, can request to borrow Bellevue-owned books and/or audio books to be sent to either your home or business address. The initial lending period is for three weeks, with the option to renew for an additional three-week period.

In order to begin the process, you need to contact either the Reference staff at library@bellevue.edu or the document delivery coordinator at allie.oconnor@bellevue.edu with the title, author, and format of the item you want to borrow. You will be e-mailed to make sure that you agree to send the library material back using a shipping system that has tracking. Once your agreement e-mailed reply is received, if the title is one that the Library owns it will be retrieved from the shelf, checked out to you, placed in a box or padded envUPS truckelope, and shipped via UPS to your preferred address. Once it is on the way, you will receive an e-mail from the document delivery coordinator telling you it has been shipped and when it is due back. To help with outgoing shipping costs, there is a $1.00 fee for each item sent. This fee does not need to be prepaid, but patrons who use this service will need to make payment using a debit card, credit card, or check before the item can be renewed or other library material can be requested. For a summary of this information, please check this link: http://library.bellevue.edu/services/document-delivery/

If the library item you request is NOT owned by the Bellevue University Library, you will be directed to the interlibrary loan form found on the library website at http://library.bellevue.edu/services/interlibrary-loan/ . The item will be requested from 5 libraries who do own it. One of those should be able to lend the item you want at that time. That lending library will send the item to the Bellevue University Library, and it then will be shipped to you. Since the ILL items are sent to library and then to the patron, the fee to have each ILL item sent is $2.00 to help with shipping costs. The lending library decides how long the check-out period is, and whether or not the patron can renew.

The Bellevue University Library staff wants to make sure that all Bellevue University alumni are notified that once they earn their degree, each one has life-long borrowing privileges and access to the Library resources and services. Please contact us at library@bellevue.edu when you need research assistance. We are here to help!
